Meanwhile, JD Vance tricked kids into watching a video in his basement about how to report your parents to the post-Project 2025 government if they think their parents might be using IVF to have another child.
It’s true.
Lol I genuinely don’t know what’s truth and what’s a meme anymore when it comes to this guy. I don’t really care anyway, just kinda wild.
Just kinda weird.
You mean he took kids to his sofa-celler?
JD Vance puts his skillet in the dishwasher.
He lets his kids down in the basement?
Does he let them sit on his girlfriend?
Source? I didn’t find anything relevant when searching for “jd vance basement kids watched project 2025 video”
The source is it’s a joke.
it was all over the news like 5 days ago
IVF?
Intervenous Farts.
But seriously, In Vitro Fertilization.
From Google:
In vitro fertilisation is one of several techniques available to help people with fertility problems have a baby. During IVF, an egg is removed from the woman’s ovaries and fertilised with sperm in a laboratory. The fertilised egg, called an embryo, is then returned to the woman’s womb to grow and develop.
Why do they have an issue with that? Worst I can tell is that they might think it weakens genetics by passing on genes from people who would otherwise struggle to reproduce, therefore making the population more dependent on medical science. I can’t really imagine the religious lot putting any stock in believing in natural selection though.
IVF involves throwing away some fertilized eggs, which can count as an abortion, which can count as murder.
Ohhhh there it is. Lame.
That may be the most well lit house I’ve ever seen in my life. That damn place looks like a library or a business or something.
He was the governor of Minnesota in 2019, this is the Governor’s Residence.
Ah, well… That makes a lot of sense…
I guess they got tired of creepers spawning and ruining the place.
They’re the winter night terrors in mn dontchaknow.
True Americans give out full-sized candy bars on Halloween, full-sized candy canes at Christmas, and chocolate bunnies that are not hollow on the inside at Easter.
Those bunnies are really fucking hard to find though. I forgive when people give me hollow chocolate bunnies, it’s what Obi-Wan would want
Am I the only one who prefers hollow bunnies? I’m not a huge chocolate fan, so a solid chocolate bunny is just way too much chocolate.
I think there’s something to enjoy from both. The hollow chocolate is so intensely sweet to me now, that I would never be able to handle it as a solid block. I think they’re also satisfying to eat, I like breaking them on the roof of my mouth.
The solid bunnies are usually somewhat higher quality chocolate, especially if you can find the ultra rare dark chocolate solid bunnies. They can be pretty difficult to eat though, especially the really big ones
Actual enlightened centrist. Great take.
I also forget that the solid bunnies are usually thinner and not as big as the hollow ones - but the point about chocolate quality is very important.
I liked a solid bunny as a kid because I would take a bite off him and put him back in the freezer.
E: The most important thing is to break him into bite-sized snaps before putting him in the freezer to begin with, though. No use biting him with your actual teeth if he’s frozen.
Obi-Wan wants solid Easter Bunnies chocolates, but will still be happy with hollow ones.
If they are hollow, they are much more easy to eat and not shatter your teeth.
Are you rich? You have this kind of money to throw around? Full size candy is like 2 bucks each, that’s like half a gallon of gas…
Honestly, in 2019 full size bars weren’t that bad if you brought them from a place in bulk. I got mine at costco for a pretty good deal, I wanna say like 32 bars were included and it was under $30 at the time. For comparison, costco also had a giant bag of mini ones which was around $20. Because I didn’t have a huge turnout of kids I was able to get away with giving full bars for maybe $10 more than what I would’ve spent. I think it was worth it when you see the kids faces drop when they realize your house is giving away the good stuff.
With that said, chocolate has gone up a lot during the years of inflation and that same box is sadly a lot more now, so I have dropped back down to just the large bag of mini ones.
It’s not as bad if you go to Sam’s Club or whichever warehouse store is near you. I can pick up a box of 30 full-size bars for less than $30 there.
And I never get 30 kids.
Rich does not mean being able to purchase X amount of full size candy bars. Damn.
2 bucks each, that’s like half a gallon of gas
Try two Aussie dollars not even getting you a litre (0.2 gallons). I ain’t giving out solid easter bunnies with those prices!
I was concerned that the house looked too fancy and maybe Walz is rich, but it turns out that it’s a Governor’s House and thus a state-owned property that he’s allowed to live in. He’s actually no longer living there, and now renting a home. His net worth is estimated to be around $150k.
Wow that’s less than my net worth, if you count pokemon cards.
But did they count Tim’s pokemon cards?
He’s just a normal person!
Hopefully he gets to live in the WH soon
I didn’t know people thought the Pres and VP were roommates
When I was a kid this was the picture we were used to see from the states in movies. Hope it goes back to that asap.
Halloween isn’t as big as it used to be, imo. My neighbor and I are both really into it though so we go harder than most. I’ve made a couple kids cry with my decorations which I consider a success, lol. Gotta earn that candy, kid!
It’s still pretty big actually. So many places near me have already begun preparing for it.
That’s what I like to hear
Yeah, tell them candy is like trust and should be earned!
Full size candy bars are literally the only alternative to full blown fascism
He’s a Jerry Gergich!
I bet he starts his day the Gergich way with bacon, eggs, and toast
Maybe Gayle was hypnotized?
Walz is a great guy all around and it’s really motivating as a voter to see him up there.
Not only is he a fantastic politician in regards to how he interacts with his constituents but he’s incredibly liberal in regards to our countries politics. I feel like he’s going to be a huge turning point for a lot of people, changing voting from “Can’t let Trump get in” to “Maybe this country can actually improve.”
hot cider? are americans okay?
Mulled cider is fucking banging. You’re missing out if you’ve never had it
ohhh they mean something like mulled wine, not just regular cider served hot?
huh. Google says American cider is just unfiltered apple juice
I stand by what I said though: hot mulled (alcoholic) cider is great
I mean he was governor in 2019 it wasn’t like he’s such a good guy that he did it when no one was watching.
He is such a good guy that he might have done it when no one was watching but this isn’t evidence of that.
Ok?
Ok who cares? This is about as dumb as the “I could drink a beer with him” voters. It doesn’t matter if he gives out full sized candy bars, giant toblerones or oranges for trick or treat. His house could be the best house on the block during Halloween and he could be the most evilest politician those things aren’t mutually exclusive. Show what he did as governor to convince people to vote for him and Harris.
Why not both. We’ve been doing both. It’s important to humanize them aas well and show what their accomplishment are.
You could have said ‘not only is this image true but he also protected women’s reproductive rights with the Pro act, trans rights with the Trans Refuge act, his gun safety measures which provided funding for violence prevention programs, expanded background checks, etc. Free lunches for all kids, voting rights for convicted felons, drivers licenses for undocumented people, paid family and medical leave by 2026, made weed legal’.
Instead you chose to just be negative, go off king I guess.
Because a huge segment of voters have proven they don’t vote based on boring facts of merit, but by psychological reactions based around how they visualize politicians as friends.
I get your point and agree with it to an extent, but I’d argue that being a good neighbor is a good thing in a politician. Sure, you can be a total asshole and do an excellent job as governor or president or whatever, but being a nice person is kinda helpful.
By all means, lead with the important bits (which for the record I have looked into and mostly like) and include this on page 12, but that doesn’t mean it’s worthless.
EDIT: Apparently he was governor in 2019 so it is a little different than him just being a good neighbor, but I think my point still stands. It’s a hell of a lot better news than “Old orange fascist quotes Hitler again”
You know this is a meme community, right? You’re taking this way too seriously.
When he sent in the national guard to crush the BLM protests in Minnesota i bet they had full sized candy bars and hot chockies too, yay!
This ghoul wont make me vote for the dems
Cool, enjoy watching the rapist dictator march Latino and queer people into camps.
I literally can’t vote you dork, enjoy inhaling your own farts you smug muppet. And maybe youre missing the part where he literally called in the army to put down protests??
Are you missing the part about the rapist dictator marching people into concentration camps? None of your insults will change Project 2025.
Also, you talked about how you won’t vote for Democrats.
This ghoul wont make me vote for the dems
Says candidate won’t sway them to vote dem, then says they can’t vote. Bot, or another ML tankie who really wants fascism, full blown.
This ghoul wont make me vote for the dems
I literally can’t vote you dork
Then why bring up that he won’t make you vote for the dems?
If you can’t vote shut the fuck up lmao
No kidding. I swear half the commenters from .ml are fighting over a single brain cell
The best gift I ever got was a T-shirt full of holes. The person gave it to me because I was cold. At the time everything they owned was the T-shirt and three ramen noodles. He went cold so I didn’t have to.
What’d Walz sacrifice for those candy bars and drinks? As a politician he’s chosen ideological slavery. If he wanted to make a real difference he’d have stayed a teacher and football coach.
Wow, what a dogshit take.
Holy shit, a new “worst take I’ve ever read” for Lemmy!
In your (warped-as-fuck) worldview, we’re better off if the good people don’t become politicians, and we’re stuck with only the self-serving leeches?
He’s a politician that takes corporate money and lives a far better life than his constituents. He’s not good.
Vs the monsters the right is running this guy is Jesus Christ
Mask off is certainly scarier than mask on.
What corporate money has he accepted up to this point?
Wow, what a stupid question.
So you not only have no sources you have no response. Move along!
Yeah why didn’t he give those trick-or-treaters his house and go homeless? Fucking politicians man
Why didn’t he live as his constituents and give the rest away?
This picture was taken in front of the governor’s residence in Minnesota. Where he lived, when he was the governor of Minnesota.
Kinda hard to give away something you don’t own.
He chose to live there.
Do you think he should have left it empty?
Thank you for asking a rare question.
Yes, he should have left the mansion empty. To stay connected to the lives of those he represents while maintaining his well-being and safety, he should live off his $127.6k salary and very nice health and retirement benefits. I’d have enough respect for that choice to possibly forgive him for his choices so far.
Ok well he did that before he was the governor. Tim Walz was an educator and coach before becoming a politician. He’s not a career politician, and during his political career he’s known for being personable, approachable, and very in touch with his constituents.
Just a suggestion, maybe before criticizing someone you should put in a bare modicum of effort towards figuring out what they’re about first.
One of the perks of being governor is you get a house for your term.
You too could get a house if you ran for office instead of yelling at people on the internet about it.
One of the perks of being governor
Yeah. There’s many “perks” of “service”.
It’s completely common in most countries that some high-ranking government officials live on state-owned property. Among the reasons for this are security, and the fact that official visits, press events and other official events are held at that property.
If he gave everything away, he wouldn’t have anything at all, therefore wouldn’t be in a position to lead. Wouldn’t you require resources to do these things? Or is it your point of view all leaders should be homeless and penniless?
He needs little more than his constituents to lead them.
I’m confused, he needs no more then his constituents but give everything away. There’s no winning with that logic. What you want is socialism?
No. This isn’t socialism he’s advocating for. It’s stupidity.
Big difference between workers owning the means of production and states having governor’s mansions
give everything away
Not much to grab hold of, huh.
Have you given everything away? Or do you only wish to lead from behind?
Is your only source of self worth bashing others online with shallow judgement? Or, do you only lead from popularity?
“moderator” “father” lol.
What are you even talking about?
What…? I think you need some more time to mature before you understand politics.
Beware ye all who enter this thread: Ye be warned, there is not but 2009 Facebook status hot takes beyond this point.
The Widow’s Mite, ancient wisdom, is a shit take? Awesome.
I think you need more time to develop the courage to effect your principles. But, I’m sure you’re too busy developing the systems of exploitation, “engineer”. You could defect. But, that takes courage. It likely doesn’t even register as a choice.
So in a democracy you’d vote for no one, as they’d all have chosen to be politicians by definition?
Voting isn’t very important in the US “democracy” because nearly all of the politicians take corporate money. It’s the same goals with different marketing. All that’s changed recently is one party just unwillingly took their mask off. To abide by my principles I don’t vote for any candidate that takes corporate money.
However, if I still lived in a purple state, I’d strongly consider sacrificing my principle for those that can’t suffer another Trump term. But, in my deep red state I’ll vote Green POTUS to put pressure Democratic platform. My POTUS vote will at least have a chance of being heard. But, probably not. There’s no way 5% of voters learn how their system works before November. It has to get worse before enough are sufficiently motivated.
Dude, you nailed it with your username choice.
Shouldn’t she also have given away all her excess money, or is that only disqualifying for Dems?
You’re the only one who asked a decent question, so far. Thanks.
I assume you mean Stein? She sucks because she’s isolated from the negative consequence of her proposed means and cares little for the agency of those who’d pay the price. I’d not vote for her if she could win. The Green candidate doesn’t matter until they could win.
The value is platform. Green has been fiercely loyal to their platform for decades. Five percent of the GE would place immense pressure upon Democratic platform immediately because the social populist platform would be on every ballot in the next cycle. Then, after fours years, their choice of candidate would matter.
So essentially, you will vote for whatever will have the greatest potential good effect. Deep red state? Green, Dems won’t win so why not pressure politicians? Swing state? Blue, best not to let the fascists drag everything further to hell if you can. Deep Blue? Green, Dems will win, so pressure them. Green? Find a party even more likely to drag the overton window back to left, if they exist. The furthest left sane option is likely to win? Protest vote of nobody as now you can tell them the system itself is the problem
I can respect that
Bruh admitting your wisdom is outdated isn’t the flex you think it is.
The principle of personal sacrifice in love is outdated?
Get well soon.
Who said anything about love? Are you trying to establish personal romantic relationships with the politicians you are a constituent of?
Weird.
What is politics but scaled, anonymous love for fellow humans?
I don’t know, hoping a rapist dictator doesn’t get into power and throw all the Latino and queer people into concentration camps?
“Ancient Wisdom” applied stupidly can indeed lead to shit takes. In this case, you’re criticizing this politician because… he didn’t give halloween handouts proportional to his income? His halloween candy bars weren’t a sufficiently significant sacrifice? And then you’re knocking this commenter because their opinion that your take is shit means they are blinded by the “systems of exploitation” they create as an engineer and their lack courage to share your moral views about the virtue of dispensing halloween candy proportional to ones wealth? You’re like a charicature of a cringey philosophy major - and I was a philosophy major. Stop pontificating and think logically about your argument.
Look at Protestants in America “interpreting” their “ancient wisdom” in all sorts of wacky ways. The Baptists’ “ancient wisdom” tells them they’ll go to hell if they dance. The pentacostals’ “ancient wisdom” says that the Holy Spirit will possess you and make you speak gibberish if you believe hard enough. The “christian science” people’s ancient wisdom tells them to pray cancer away - and if they fail to, it’s because they aren’t righteous enough.
Just because you can loosely relate some “ancient wisdom” to a situation doesn’t mean that it’s applicable or that you’re correct.
My wisdom would tell me that this guy’s halloween handouts don’t really say anything about him other than either that he: just likes giving out halloween candy, sees it as a smart political move, or both.
I’m criticizing the politician for living a significantly higher quality of life than his constituents. And, I’m criticizing the masses for aggrandizing the meaningless action because he’s a politician. I think we deserve much better leadership.
It’d been nice if you asked a question instead of creating a strawman then spending three paragraphs defeating it.
Dude he was a coach and a social studies teacher before he became a politician. I guarantee you he knows what it’s like to live on a middle class budget
He stopped living that life and chose another. He’s no longer that person.
If the strawman fits, burn it when you come to it. That’s what my grandpappy always used to say
You’re typing a lot, but you’re not saying anything.
He seems like the kind of person that really likes hearing the sound of their own voice and goes on and on even if he has nothing of substance to actually say. An exhausting person to be around.
Imagine being their mother and having to listen to this every time you make them their bagel bites.
Perhaps you’re not understanding and choosing the convenience of shallow judgement.
Dumb.
You should have let him keep the shirt, dude. He had much less than you, so he deserved it more.
He’d built up much more of a tolerance to the cold conditions than I had. It wasn’t even a day before another prisoner found out what he’d done and gave him a long sleeve. And, once I was on my feet I bought the old man a couple sets of long johns. No one needs asked to take care of a man who’ll literally give you the shirt off his back.
With tears in his eyes, the old man cut fresh holes into the brand new long johns and offered me a pair.
/r/ThatHappened
What does your strife have to do with the price of eggs in China?
The Widow’s Mite.
The Widow’s Mite? Are you Jesus or the widow? If you say you’re Jesus, then you’re self righteous, if you say you’re the widow, then it’s a lie because the widow never complained about her goings-on
