People set up private servers and then sell use of admin commands or mods for real money. Stuff like 100 diamonds spawned in for $5. If course mods make it more seamless by implementing currency systems directly into the game, but the basic premise is selling in game power for real money. It’s extremely popular to do this in other games like Rust and Ark as well
I think if I have kids I’m gonna break out the old consoles in order, so that they have an appreciation for the history and because it’ll probably be a self-limiting hobby due to looking like shit compared to anything on a phone
Up until the early-mid 90s there were the lingering effects of arcade-oriented design where shit was super hard to get your quarters, but yeah even that’s not so bad compared to the newer shit that takes your quarters digitally.
Just want to take a second and say thank God I had Warcraft 3 instead of Roblox growing up.
Thank god I had nintendo ds and minecraft. No child scamming micro transactions there
There was a period in Minecraft where predatory mtx were going as hard as they do in Roblox

The individual servers used to be able to have their own mtx
My kids still have a Nintendo DS and Minecraft. It was the last handheld to not be designed from the ground up for internet connectivity.
But what about the PictoChat predators??
Work work.
Work is da poop, NO MORE!
Off I go then!
One of the best things my parents did was not let me play video games.
