it’s incredibly squishy language but to be real, this result is actually incredible. 2 decades ago you would NEVER ask this question and get any fewer than 10 people saying “yeah moderate, I love moderation because I’m so thoughtful and measured”

Some number of these people are very vulnerable to being tricked by some fucking Warren or Crockett but they do know what they want

Moderates’ real opinion: “It’s not bad for the homeless to be put into camps.”

Progressives’ real opinion: “It might be bad for the homeless to be put into camps.”

Leftist: “Fuck that guy! He literally joked about kidnapping the homeless, killing them, and turning them into candles! And doing it himself!”

Liberal: “I grant you that the joke was unseemly. But you left out the context. He was talking about recycling on the CHUDpod. And the important thing is that he can beat Trump. We gotta stop Trump. Nothing else matters. What’s wrong with you? Do you - not so secretly - want Trump?”

Bringing “Progressivism” back to its eugenicist, classist and exterminationist roots

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progressivism_in_the_United_States#%3A~%3Atext=Eugenics+faction%2C-Main+article%3A+Eugenics&text=Progressives+also+advocated+for+compulsory%2Cscientific+racism+to+an+end.

I hate to break it to any self-identified “progressives” but Gavin “let’s kill the homeless” Newsom is actually a truer progressive than anyone here

It means the thing from the liberal Elmo bit. “Ideologically speaking, because I’m a good person, I don’t want to call the police on you. But push comes to shove, I will and I have. I already did”

They hate the term and they are probably typical so shit dems will simply start to call themselves something else. “Progressive” might be a bridge too far. Maybe they’ll use some consultant speak crap like “forward-thinking”.

The median American is provably more progressive than the Dems are, so I think there’s some real substance to it even if we both might disagree on the use of the label to some extent as well.

I think the average American is more to the left of the dems. But - I’m not being facetious - I don’t think that actually matters. The dem voter circle of life is that they’ll vote for whoever says the right things who the teevee approves of for saying the right things. Actual reality won’t matter. It never does.

In terms of guessing how a completely normal election goes, I agree, but we shouldn’t discount that basically the entire Democrat platform is “there is no alternative” and “a vote not for us is a vote for Trump” and so on. I think they really do want better things that the Dems opposed, but they have learned helplessness about it, and it’s our job as socialists to seize on the former and beat back the latter, which is a much more favorable position than if the general population was as far to the right as Dems pretend it is, even if it’s still bleak.

I’ve been wanting to write something about how we live in a cannibal country that eats it’s young because they can barely hide the contempt they have for the youth. This is another good example here.

My girl Kai works in healthcare and her job is real. Plus Loren being unemployed is a lot more relatable.

a meaningless mush word that is one of the many chicken and egg riddles of american political incoherence. you don’t have to have any real goals or material plans to achieve them, you just have to vaguely gesture at ‘progress’ or harness its ephemeral power like wind in a kite. i’d call it running on vibes but even there you have to be in contact with something solid to feel them. it’s the ideology of answering questions with obama campaign posters.
