    It used to be considered such a ‘trash food’ fit only for the pathetically poor that there were actually servant employment contracts that limited the amount of lobster the Master of the House was allowed to feed his staff.

    Now, that’s largely independent of the taste, mind you. It was more that the Victorians considered any bottom-feeder seafood to be nigh unfit for eating.
