I went to a planned parenthood the other day to escort a friend. I was so confused to see the protestor people still exist. It feels so turn of the century you know?

I almost got into a actual fight with one. He was way to agressive. His plan was for the day was to try to enjoy humiliating vulnerable women to enforce white supremacy and the patriarchy. He did not plan to deal with my untreated mental health issues. His organization had him take a break and replaced him with a less annoying one. So like, I am glad I didn’t do any adventurism I guess?

Now that we know it was basically created as part of the Epstine plan and it is mostly used by men to get gratification from hurting women I find I am much less abel to find liberal equanimity about those people.

That’s the neat thing about the culture war. They totally would. These people are supported by their fascist communities. Their churches, their family, etc. so they’ve got all the time in the world to stand around harassing people

Not to mention the retired boomers who really have nothing but time and make up a significant portion of these assholes

From what I can see we are. A good portion of them are SS recipients.

They are doing it for social capital at their church or the sexual thrill of harassing young women.

No shade on you but there’s almost a conspiracy among the western left to deny that Christian nationalists are as aggressive, hateful, and intruding on other people’s lives as they ever have been.

For some bizarre reason that may come down to a lot of people growing up in less religious households and buying into the idea of mutual religious tolerance (a one-sided disarmament the Christians never agreed to in the US btw) and living in relatively tolerant, multi-cultural cities they assume this is all in the past. But it’s not. Women’s rights are under attack, these monsters are everywhere indoctrinating kids with their poison wherever they can and they’re winning more than they have any time since the 80s.

I keep seeing it online here and in person where people just disbelieve that there are millions of hateful, angry, violent Christian nationalists desperate to impose Christian supremacy and destroy women’s rights, LGBTQ+ rights, etc. And they unlike the crunchy “tolerance” atheists and agnostics are organized, connected, wealthy, and acting to enact their vision while these liberals continue to say “not all Christians!” which has the same whitewashing effect as interrupting with “not all men!”.

Christianity has PR-washed itself with some progressive popes and an occasional amplified on the left only kindly sounding progressive Christian figure but by and large the churches are still full of hate, bigotry, and anger at abortion rights, rights to birth control, etc. And a lot of people on the left are taken in by this and seem to see atheists as capable of being overly energetic and aggressive and when you compare some edgy atheist teen on youtube or online making fun of religious people in comments or videos ONLINE to these folks actually out there harassing and intimidating women every day, every day working behind the scenes to further outlaw abortions, every day working to outlaw access to contraception, every day working to undo no fault divorce and other women’s rights. Every day telling little girls that they are property for the sexual satisfaction of men and raising them in that environment. Well, then there is no contest in terms of harm caused.

People are way too online about deciding who is annoying. Because the Christians don’t preach online outside of themselves, they preach IRL where it has a larger impact than a drive-by comment that mods can delete or which people can downvote, they act quietly in an organized and determined fashion and so if all people do is look at what they see online well they think the only problem is annoying atheists. Christians are experts at psychological manipulation and abuse to break people and turn them into converts and have numerous books on the subject. They know that online in open spaces is not the place you go to isolate, befriend, use abusive tactics on and break people. They know it’s real life you do that.

I think it’s a confluence of three specific things: the seeming shift in the mainstream between the Bush and Obama years, where the theocrats started losing some of their visibility and things seemed to be turning away from them and their influence; the way a lot of '00s and early '10s atheists were still chauvinist pigs but they thought that all the silly belief-in-magic stuff and restrictions on things like drugs and porn were cringe and dumb and worse were inconveniencing them personally; and how there was an active propaganda campaign by fascists, masterminded by the likes of Jeffery Epstein and Steve Bannon, to capture that sort of disaffected libertine and turn them into frothing footsoldiers for the neoreactionary movement by convincing them it was “really” women and minorities who were silly and cringe and who were getting in the way of their funtime tasty treats.

Part of that last one was a concerted effort to portray atheism as cringe to help convert the chauvinist nu-atheists who were terrified of looking cringe into rabid tradcath crusader larpers.

Unfortunately there was a period where atheism was cringe. It was white privilege havers and liberals declaring they had enough privilege to not need church anymore. It was a bad look. Like remember how much they hated Islam and how perfectly that lined up with the state department? Liberal psyop for sure

Most people live in densely populated places where they aren’t as active. I am not going to see them protesting st the grocery store anymore. I might see a pro trump protester but not one of those. So they just represent a large number of people from a different social arrangements

The woman looks like the woman in those pervasive ads with unhinged story lines such as her leaving a domestic abuse situation and becoming homeless with her baby. Those ads always felt to me like they were designed to create the idea that a woman leaving her husband will end up worse off for her.

    Here’s what I don’t get about chuds and pro-lifers.

Their whole brand is they’re the monsters and proud of it, because it’s “cool”. Why the hell are they acting sensitive on the issue of abortion?

Yeah sure, let me be lectured on morals from the political equivalent of satanists.

Because it’s a cudgel to use to be cruel to women. Fuentes had the clearest verbal expression of it: “Your body, my choice”.

They can use imaginary people to abuse real people.

Shockingly, chuds are not a monolith. They’re a broad coalition of several different groups of cranks with their own awful pet projects intended to make everyone suffer in different ways.

The “White Monsters” and the Credulous Catholics are two different factions and they hate each other.

The monsters you’re thinking of largely don’t care about abortion other than as a very transparent way to control women which they will tell you verbatim. They also consider everyone else in their coalition to be useful idiots for the purpose of advancing fascism.

The pro-life nuts are a different group that spend about half their week pearl clutching over the monsters eating everyone’s faces and the other half pearl clutching over liberals not going to church enough.

Yeah, chuds are more a loosely tied collection of grievances rather than a monolith with any real ideological consistency.

Most of their views can be summarized as a reaction against others who are upset with the current state of things and trying to change them, thus their only real unifying cause is preservation of the status quo that privileges them.

A majority of chuds don’t really care about any of the specific issues they rally in support of, but each individually having distaste for one or more of the many positions that would raise the oppressed classes into a position of potentially challenging their elevated social status. It is purely an instinct to guard their turf, the hegemonic position, one that requires almost no ideological unified front.

This is easily exploited by mass media who pump a constant stream of new culture war topics to become their new gripe. These dogwhistles serve as a socially acceptible rhetorical device granting them plausible deniability when they pop up like a weasel to bully the lessers.

The coalition is simply a mosaic of various prejudices whose logical conclusion is ruthless defense of the status quo. Any issue is interchangeable for any other. Conservatives never cared about the wall, they care that whites maintain their privilege. Repeat for any of their issues. Their party line can be whatever Trump said yesterday or nothing at all, so long as it doesn’t disturb the hierarchy.

      1. they’re not a monolith. There are a lot of Evangelicals who would be scandalized by the ways some chuds online talk

      2. Because at the end of the day it’s about controlling women, making us second class citizens, subjugating us beneath men and even the more offensive less Christian chuds use this “caring about life” line because it unlike saying “I’m a monster who wants to control and subjugate women” has resonance among women (many of whom unfortunately are indoctrinated, beaten with emotional manipulation, etc to be anti-choice), among normal people who are empathetic. It furthers their cause and they are fine being dishonest and joining the kindly church lady group and looking respectable in using this kind of objection. They are smart enough to know to lie to advance their cause and to use the ready-forged, effective weapon the Christian coalition has placed before them.

They want moral authority to be monsters and be good at the same time. It’s the same reason you see bumper stickers about how they will murder pedophiles in the most extreme ways. It’s the same reason they constantly fantasize about someone breaking into their home to the point they murder people turning cars around in their driveway.
