So weird how people call bi men gay, but nobody calls bi women lesbian. Bi women are just “spicy straight.” Like they think being attracted to men must be the default?

Funny enough, while homophobic straights treat bi men as predominantly gay, biphobic gay men will insist bi men are just performative straight guys faking it, will always choose a woman over them, etc. The monosexuals can’t make up their damn minds on which direction they wanna erase us in!

Unless you mean they dated men before they realized they were exclusively into women, or you speak another language where there’s a linguistic/cultural difference in the translation, I think most actual lesbians would find that usage problematic. There’s already an umbrella term for bi + lesbian women: “sapphic” or “WLW.” Just like “queer” is an umbrella term for anyone not straight, so you could call a bi man a queer man or MLM, but I’m objectively not a gay man. Tbh if my gay attractions make me a gay man, then by that logic, my straight attractions should make me a straight man simultaneously

ah i’m guilty of this too - generally “gay” and “queer” are synonymous among my circles. i’d say it’s bc explaining your gender and sexuality is a) a lot, as you said, and b) more info than is necessary a lot of the time. but i don’t think that a person struggling to come to terms with their dad being bi is working to those definitions

Dementia correlates with loss of inhibition, plus some people stop giving a shit once they reach a certain age. This is probably the most benign version of that I’ve seen.

Dementia is also known to change people’s personalities and brain structures, so it could just be that, but who knows, maybe he did repress his homosexuality.

Or maybe homosexuality has more to do with brain chemistry. I don’t know. I just like dick.

I think there’s also a tendency for men of a certain generation to just go ‘’‘’‘soft’‘’‘’ with age in some ways. They remove themselves from an environment of strict sexual and gender expression (workplace), and either double down on it or let go of it. Most people, of course, are on a spectrum.

That’s honestly a fair question. Like for sure it could be a lifetime of inhibitions suddenly lifted, but dementia is such a deeply rooted disease, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if it came with the possibility of shifting any kind of preference, sexual or otherwise.

…any mental health workers here to chime in?

I was gonna send the 12 minute Arnold Palmer rant but it’d be longer than the entire thread combined so I won’t
