So true! I was looking forward to drinking for the longest time. And as soon as I tried it…it sucked so bad 😭
The flavor, the effect, the culture around it…ugh. Not for me, thanks.

The trick is to become addicted so that the bitter, solvent taste triggers the brain chemical anyway.

I stopped drinking alcohol for around 8 months and I must say beer is the most horrible drink out there, I don’t see anything redeemable about it.

But I like whiskey, aguardiente, vodka and especially, wine. Still not worth the cancer.

I read somewhere: Kids think that the adult drink is coffee, teenagers think that the adult drink is beer/wine, adults think that the adult drink is water.

Wine tastes like how feet smell.

I don’t know if it’s a genetic thing (like the cilantro thing for some people), but I’ve tried fine wines and also the cheapest box wine, and it’s the same thing for me.

Red, white and rose? Or one in particular? I feel like those would have to be considerably different smelling feet. I have never tasted that note but I’m on the look out for it next time I have a glass lol

Mostly red, but white is not so far behind. And now that you mention it, I haven’t tried rosé yet.

I’m honestly sad I won’t be able to drink a nice glass of wine with someone. I know it’s a bonding/romantic experience for the majority of people.

The culture around it=> yes. 100%.

You know how they portray the local sportsbar in soapsseries as “just the good ol guys hanging out”?

Now think of what that looks like irl.

Not the same is it? Oftentimes it looks more like a bunch of cavemen inching towards a riot. And if it isn’t that it’s probably very sexist talk or such.

Aside from a few stupid years where I was trying to silence God and my inner turmoil rather then admitting that one wasn’t real (to me, you do you if that keeps you going) and the other was me trying to break free. I cut down alcohol as far as, maybe one or two drinks on occasion (being once every two/three months or so). And even that is … meh.

And a big part of that is, the feeling of hiding. Being drunk is just another escape from being truly yourself. Sure, you get the giggles and whatnot but at my age that feels very empty. And disingenous.

What I still hate is “how about you? A beer or some champagne?” And oftentimes I’ll just have the one drink and slowly work my through it eventhough…I kinda don’t want to. But I also don’t wanna deal with the “oh come on, just have one it won’t hurt”.

I’ve seen some people go down some very dark paths because of alcohol. And that alcohol is usually there to patch up some old wounds.

I’m starting to sound like an AA member here but you get the gist of it.

In my country at least, the talking always turns sexist, no matter what. It’s just a matter of time and I fucking hate it.

And it’s so normalized, you get yelled at for having a problem with it. I hate it so fucking much…

From my experience, men drinking in pubs is a baaaaad environment…and it’s not the alcohol, although it does make it worse. It’s part of the reason why I stay the fuck away.

Anyway, sorry for the rant :P

Honestly, that’s one of the better outcomes. Alcohol is pretty dangerous and I’ll applaud someone for abandoning it for any reason.

I know it wouldn’t go well with the existing culture around it but I am so incredibly for making it illegal for general grocery stores to sell any alcohol above 5%.

Alcohol is a drug. And drugs shouldn’t be available to anyone as readily as bread. Make it only be available to specialist stores and increase taxes on alcohol to hell and back! (unless it’s pure ethanol… Please leave some slack for us hobbyist chemists and tinkerers ;-;)

I mean I get your point but also it just introduces an inconvenience for normal people, and I don’t think it really decreases alcohol abuse. People who are genuine addicts will just go where the alcohol is, might as well make it easy for them to pick up the groceries at the same time, otherwise they might just not do that.

The point of making it harder to acquire is to prevent people who aren’t addicted from becoming addicted in the first place. Once people reach addiction status they will usually find a way to get ahold of supply even if barriers are in place

Okay but we know that addiction is a loneliness issue not really a substance issue. When people are isolated and repressed/suppressed, they are far more likely to get addicted. Community is the key, and of course it isn’t a panacea to addiction, but it sure does prevent a lot of it, and helps people out of it.

I was 19 and I was at a friend’s place. Her brother came in with a bottle of Smirnoff and offered us a glass. I was like “I’m not old enough” and they respected that. Then they opened it and I was like “did you also bring cupcakes?” It was the booze I was smelling. I asked for a glass. They told me to sip it. By the time they were done talking the glass was empty.

I look back on that night now and just laugh. I don’t drink anymore.
