False. I have access to both oxygen and hydrogen as a welder. I have used both to make a flame that reacts both elements to CREATE water.

You’re welcome, everyone. I saved you all.

During respiration, cells combine glucose and oxygen to produce carbon dioxide and water ((C_6H{12}O_6 + 6O_2 \rightarrow 6CO_2 + 6H_2O))._

This is true for everything. The matter in your body is not yours, for example, it’s just your turn to use all that carbon and oxygen and whatnot

That carbon and oxygen is just temporarily in that form. The fermions that comprise it will be reused to form other matter

It cannot be diluted, but it can stop existing.

1000 ml holy water + 999 ml of tap water = 1999 ml of holy water, but

999 ml holy water + 1000 ml of tap water = 0 ml holy water.

So to make all water holy water, we first need more holy water than water, which is hard.

Is there a rate at which regular water is converted into holy water? I feel like we could just pour the 1000ml of regular water into the 999ml of holy water at whatever that rate is, and still end up with 1999ml of holy water in the end. Or is it like adding water to acid where it summons a very irate priest if you try that?

Water is not eternal. It can be destroyed and created. One of the interesting ways new water happens is when you burn hydrocarbons. Some of those hydrogen atoms find and bond to the oxygen from the air and boom, that’s brand new water; clean and pure, straight from the exhaust pipe.

A “Showerthought” is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you’re doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

  • Both “200” and “160” are 2 minutes in microwave math
  • When you’re a kid, you don’t realize you’re also watching your mom and dad grow up.
  • More dreams have been destroyed by alarm clocks than anything else

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as “capitalism” and “communism”. If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy’s Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.
